Solar Panel Bubble Bursts ?

Government has confirmed cuts to the feed in tariff scheme. Support for domestic solar photovoltaics has been cut by more than half.

Rates will be roughly halved for all bands of solar installations up to 50kW (to 21p/kWh) with cuts of around a third to schemes from 50kW to 150kW (to 12.9p/kWh) and trimmed slightly for 150-250kW schemes (down 2.1p to 12.9p/kWh).

The consultation also proposes that properties will also have to meet minimum standards of energy efficiency to qualify to receive the proposed feed in tariff rates.

The proposed new tariffs will apply to all installations accredited on or after 12 December.

The new feed-in tarriff rates are expected to lead to a massive drop in demand for new Solar PV Installations and will see many Solar Panel Installation businesses closing.
